Fingers crossed
So, it looks like the D.C. sniper has been found. We'll know soon if the police got the right guy.
According to news reports (which during any breaking story could be 100% wrong), the alleged shooter was supposedly motivated by anti-American sentiments and held some sympathy for the 9/11 hijackers. Recently, the man converted to Islam.
Keep in mind that the alleged shooter is a U.S. military vet. A good guy. Someone on our side.
If true, there's a very scary lesson here. Al-Qaida didn't recruit this guy. The alleged sniper did his evil work because he was fed up with the way America was treating people.
You don't need to go to an Afghani terror camp to be a terrorist. You can feel as if you have no place in society. You can pack up all your rage and put it in a car for a long drive through the eastern seaboard, picking people off.
When you feel like you have nothing to lose, that's incredibly intoxicating. Even empowering.
My friend Cori said that if this guy did it, that's it for Muslims in this country. Close the gates and let us wash our hands of them. They spoiled it for rest of the class.
Personally, I hope there'll be no blowback on the Muslim community for this, but I'm not that naive anymore.
Maybe I’ll write more about this later. I was looking forward to holing up in my condo and watching a bunch of DVDs for my first day of vacation. Looks like I’ll be hypnotized by CNN instead.
