French Word of the Day
Quelque chose (kel kuh shohz): something; a trifle
My name is John, and I'm a Bushalcoholic
A couple weeks ago, I said I was going to stay away from ranting about Bush. Try as I might, I get keeping pulled back in. I spend way too much time in political Web sites, and I get carried away. Granted, a lot of the things that Bush does are stupid and writing on my blog reduces some of the stress, but it's getting old and way too familiar. This week, I found myself going to the same Web sites, reading the same books, listening to the same CD mixes in iTunes. It has to end, or at least change. I need to seriously start adding original content here, whether it be cool Web sites I found or original fiction snippettes. And, yes, I will get to my Salon/blog essay. I've had to do some serious rethinking about Salon's venture into blogspace, but I should be adding it and other stuff soon.
Don't come to me for news...just come here for French language lessons, alpha-release fiction and various essays. If you want news, click on the BBC News link on the left. I absolutely recommend the BBC as a primary source of news and information...far cleaner than CNN's site and with a lot more context and more objective reporting as well. If you don't get BBC America on your cable set-up, I recommend you give the cable company a call and demand they add it to your lineup. Watch Bill Moyers and NOW tonight on your local PBS station, too.
What I'm Up To
My album pick for the moment: Sky Cries Mary's "This Timeless Turning."
My MP3 pick: "Tomorrow Comes Today" by Gorillaz.
The song I can't get out of my head: Eminem's "Without Me." Serious, it's been like three days now. I feel like that guy in the movie "Pi" aiming the power drill at his temple.
I'm re-reading "Lost on Earth." It’s a great piece of non-fiction describing life for the millions who were uprooted and without a home globally in the time between the end of Communism through the mid-1990s.
